Medical Devices & Tooling

Medical equipment and tools are nearly always manufactured from stainless steel or delicate alloys

The surface finish is critical from firstly the removal of contaminants and secondly a uniformed surface finish to maintain high cleanliness levels of the components during use.

Typically hand tools are sterilised and therefore must be easily cleaned and the surface finish is critical to facilitate this. Equipment sterilising tanks etc. once fabricated need to be sterile and often we have produced machines, typically the wetblasting range of machines, which can produce a satin finish on pressed stainless steel or alloy components enabling these to be cleaned easily for many years.

There is a wide range of different medical equipment from very large to very small, but Vixen’s in house design team possess the technical capacity and expertise which then enables them to adhere to any specification from the customer. Whether it’s simple dental tools requiring a surface finish or a laparoscopic device used in key hole surgery, Vixen has produced machines for these applications.

The applications for medical vary so widely from small tools to large wash plants associated to MRI scanners. We have produced wash machines to clean components used in very large magnets which is the critical part associated to an MRI scanner. These parts varied extensively and required high cleanliness levels for bonding etc.

The Aquablast range is also used to make sure the devices such as scalpels and hammers meet critical cleanliness standards. As the Aquablast machine process combines water with the media to create slurry, this ensures no media is impregnated into the part, which is crucial when handling medical equipment so there is no contamination.

Another option is the Jetair machine which can produce a similar finish; however this uses air borne abrasive to create the desired effect. The Jetair machines come with many optional extras to help aid the process for example small and large pressure pots. All of the cabinets are manufactured so that they can be easily converted to a pressure operated blast system. Converting the machine to pressure blast increases the speed by up to 4 times that of a standard suction machine making this a popular option for many industries.
