THE AQUABLAST®  915 WET BLASTING MACHINE IS DESIGNED BY VIXEN  TO SIMULTANEOUSLY DEGREASE AND BLAST MULTIPLE COMPONENTS. CUSTOMERS FIND THIS TO BE AN EXCELLENT ENTRY-LEVEL WET BLASTING MACHINE.

The process cleans by flow, and not impact, producing a 'soft' finish. The water acts as a lubricant, avoiding media impregnation and also extending the life of the blast media. The typical process is as follows:

The water/media slurry is contained within the wet blasting cabinet sump.

Delivery of the slurry to the manual blast nozzle is via a glandless polyurethane pump and associated hoses located inside the wet blasting machine.

Compressed air is added at the blast nozzle to accelerate the slurry and create the cleaning effect.

After contact with the component, the slurry then drains back into the sump creating a re-circulating system.

Fine broken down media and other contaminants are fed via an overflow to a sedimentation filter located at the rear of the wet blasting machine.

Where heavy items are to be processed it is often easier to load these items external to the blast cabinet using an overhead crane or perhaps a fork lift truck. Vixen offer this facility on all the Aquablast range with standard and special load capacities where required. The turntable can be moved outside of the chamber, loaded and wheeled back in. In some cases where needed the turntables can be linked to an electric drive inside the cabinet for operator ease.

This item comes complete on a stainless steel frame and being very light it can easily be lifted into the cabinet. Once inside the cabinet a bucket is placed under the cyclone and the blast gun is connected to the cyclone. The operator simply depresses the foot pedal and the abrasive begins filling the bucket which enables easy emptying of the machine of abrasive.

Turntables are a very popular option. A fixed turntable inside the machine enables easy manoeuvrability of the components to be blasted. These turntables can also be electrically gear driven if required, but in most cases can be manipulated by hand with loads of up to 50kg.

With small components it is often easier for the gun to be locked into a holder and the operator simply manipulates the small part in the blast stream.

Where the integrity of the abrasive is critical and the concentration must be absolutely constant, it is often easier to use the media concentration monitor which enables the operator to check the abrasive mix periodically by simply pressing a button.

The wet cyclones are designed to automatically remove broken down abrasive and sediment from the blasting process. These are normally specified where the blasting process is critical such as aerospace applications. The benefits of the wet cyclone are that any spent abrasive is removed and the finish integrity does not deteriorate in any way as the abrasive remains consistent.

Vixen’s closed loop system allows the machine to operate without the need of a mains water supply or drain nearby. This system is a large sedimentation filter unit that filters the liquid sufficiently and uses a heavy-duty air operated diaphragm pump to recycle water for the rinse gun and window wash.

The closed loop sedimentation tank is supplied with a series of Vixen designed containers which have an overlap feature. These are Vixen’s tooling and are fitted with weirs to allow water to cascade from one container to allow fine particles of debris or broken abrasive to settle in the containers. These containers can easily be removed for cleaning individually and make maintenance of the closed loop system quick and easy.

WHAT ARE THE ADVANTAGES OF WETBLASTING OVER DRY BLASTING?

Wetblasting produces a finer finish than dry blasting and is ideal for the cleaning of more delicate components. The Aquablast machines use a water and abrasive slurry to simultaneously blast and degrease which prevents impregnation of media onto the component. One of the major advantages of wetblasting is that it is a dust free process.

 

DO I NEED THE AQUABLAST TO BE CONNECTED TO A WATER SUPPLY OR SITED NEAR A DRAIN?

The machine can be supplied with a closed loop rinse system where the water used for the windscreen wash and rinsing after blasting is simply recycled and filtered in a sedimentation tank sited at the rear of the machine. Periodically this sedimentation tank needs emptying (usually once per week) and refilling with clean water.

 

WHAT SIZES OF MACHINE ARE AVAILABLE IN THE AQUABLAST RANGE?

The Aquablast machine comes in three standard sizes: the 915, 1215 and 1515. The size of the customer’s machine is entirely dependable on the application, and Vixen can also manufacture bespoke Aquablast machines to suit different needs.

 

WHAT IS THE LOAD CAPACITY OF AN AQUABLAST?

The Aquablast’s standard load capacities are: Aquablast 915 – 80-100 kg, Aquablast 1215 – 250 kg and an Aquablast 1515 – 250 kg. Vixen can also design an Aquablast machine for customers who require a larger load capacity. As well as this, trollies are also available to ease loading of larger parts and can be decided upon after further consultations with one of Vixen’s sales engineers.

 

WHERE CAN I GET SPARE PARTS OR MEDIA FOR MY AQUABLAST CABINET?

Vixen can supply all additional spare parts to the customer. Once a customer has purchased a machine, they will be allocated an account handler who is available to give advice and support on parts and consumables.

 

WHAT DOES THE AQUABLAST NEED TO OPERATE?

The Aquablast machine requires 3 phase or single phase electrics and a compressed air supply to operate. If the Aquablast machine uses an open loop, it will also require a water supply.

 

WILL MY METAL COMPONENTS RUST IF I FINISH THEM USING THE AQUABLAST?

Although the Aquablast machine uses water to blast components, rust inhibitors and other detergents can be added to the application to ensure that metal components do not rust or corrode. Call us today to find out more
