CNC Machining

CNC Machining is a process which is most commonly used in the manufacturing industry which involves the use of computers to control machine tools. Different tools that be controlled in this process include lathes, mills, grinders and routers. The term CNC Machining stands for Computer Numerical Control Machining.


Vixen have produced many different washing and degreasing machines associated with CNC machining, it has been quite typical that an operator, working one or two CNC machines, would simultaneously load a Vixen wash plant with components as they exit the CNC machining centre. Vixen also produce the Archimedes Tristar drum washer which is ideally suited to washing small components, specifically fasteners, rivets and small machined parts. These are often loaded via the exit chute on the CNC machine, directly into the Archimedes screw wash plant.


Taking things a stage further, where machining centres are robotically loaded and unloaded in order to save time and costs, Vixen produced a robotic wash plant, which can be incorporated with robotic loading and unloading.

“VTL had a requirement for the cleaning of a high precision Aluminium component with an extremely high cleanliness specification to go with it. The part had complex oil galleries that could not be cleaned by conventional methods. VTL went to vixen with a concept of a high pressure robotic system which Vixen then took forward and developed into the system we have now. Because of the success of the 1st machine we have now ordered a follow up machine for a new project. This machine is a key component to the success of our production line and Vixen stood up to the challenge” – Richard Thornton VTL.


A further requirement for CNC machined components is often a uniform satin finish, which in many cases components that exit a machining centre need slight deburring and/or blending of the machined areas. Vixens Aquablast machines have been utilized in this application/industry to process singular parts, batches of components and also recently, robotically processed components. The benefits of the Aquablast machines which are used to do this work, is that they are water based blasting machines, where the water is mixed with fine particles to create a slurry. This is then pumped and accelerated using compressed air, and on impact the slurry can slightly change the surface of the components, without any dimensional change, and thus creating a uniform finish on the components after processing.
